08/11, Belfast, Northern Ireland: Mostly known for “The Troubles,” those 30 grueling years of Protestant/Catholic fighting and bloodshed from the late 1960s to late 1990s, but the city is so much more. It has been a globally renowned ship-building city w/many yards, including the one that built the RMS Titanic. Though soccer is the favorite sport here, “hurling” is the most uniquely Gaelic. It draws large crowds to watch a match of men w/big sticks whack a ball around. It’s been played for more than 3000 years! This city is also known for a vast arts influence.
–wonderfully mild temperatures from low 50s to low 60s
~ When you “pray for the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:6), you may want to add Belfast too.
