Katie’s Library

ChurchNews & Events

We’re moving Katie’s Library into storage for what is hoped to be a very temporary storage. All of the children’s and teen material were boxed-up weeks ago; most of the adult fiction and non-fiction has also been boxed and stored away. They’re being stored in the Resource Center room in the FLC, near the church office.
However, for anyone wanting to check-out some library books or music CD’s – you can still do so. There are still 2 roll-away bookshelves at the library’s entrance with books: 1 with adult fiction and 1 with adult non-fiction. They will remain for a few more weeks. The library’s Christian music CDs are also still available.
As many know, the library was named Katie’s Library for young Katie Koethe, whose young life was cut short at 3 years – after a tragic accident at home. Her parents, Bob & Cindy Koethe, were understandably heart-broken with the loss of their precocious daughter who loved books. Their church family did all they could for the young parents and it was eventually agreed to create a children’s library in Katie’s memory. Funds were raised and a very small 2 shelf-library was created in the children’s Sunday School room. When our current Sanctuary was planned, the building plans were altered slightly to accommodate a room for a real library. And that was the beginning of our Church library, consecrated in November 2006, by Pastor Van Lazaroff.
Although the library has now existed for almost 10 years, it seems a shame to let it fade away. But its future is questionable. It is fervently hoped that we can retain this library that so many church members have enjoyed over the years.
